"The Roofing Contractor" The Roofing Contractor may install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, or design, when not prohibited by law, and use materials and items used in the installation, maintenance, extension, and alteration of all kinds of roofing, waterproofing, and coating, except when coating is not represented to protect, repair, waterproof, stop leaks, or extend the life of the roof.
The General Trade Knowledge portion of the Florida Roofing exam consists of 80 equally weighted, multiple-choice questions. The examination will have questions relating to the following content areas and necessary knowledge for each area includes: Reading and Interpreting Plans and Specifications Reading and Interpreting Codes Basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,calculations of area and volume, fractions, decimals, percentages, calculating the sides of triangles, square roots, powers of numbers, and solving simple algebraic equations for unknown variables) Licensing: Fee: If applying between June 4th of an even year and August 31st of an odd year $409.00 -OR- If applying between September 1st of an odd year and June 3rd of an even year $309.00.
EXPERIENCE: Applicants can qualify by meeting one of several requirements. (A) 4 yr. construction-related degree from accredited college (equivalent to 3 years experience) and 1 yr proven experience applicable to the category for which you are applying. (B) 1 yr. as a foreman and not less than 3 yrs. of credits from any accredited college level courses. (C) Holding an active certified or registered Florida contractors license. (D) One year as a workman, one year proven experience as a foremen and two years of credits for any accredited college level courses. (E) Four years of experience as a workman or foreman of which at least one year must have been as a foreman. ** The experience must be verified by one of the following: 1) Licensed Contractor (Must provide state licensed in and license #). 2) Registered Architect or Engineer (Must provide license # and state)
BACKGROUND CHECK: Each applicant must provide background info. (a background check will be performed by the Board)
FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must show a net worth of $20,000.00 -AND- $10,000 cash in the bank. (Must be proved by submitting the balance sheets provided (backup documentation must be provided for everything listed) -OR- an Audited Financial Statement.
RENEWAL OF LICENSE: Each contractor is required to take 14 hours of continuing education during each biennium prior to the renewal period. (Course Must Be Taken Through A Dept. approved course TESTING is administered by PTI (407)896-4285, every other month (six times per year) in February, April, June, August, October, and December.
Test Locations are: Orlando, Tallahassee, and Miami. PTI's test fee: $135.00/exam.
