  • NEVADA (CONTRACTOR) BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SURVEY EXAM

  • This is not a license by itself. It is however required by all types of contractors. The State has created a trade exam for most licenses. When a trade exam is available, applicants must take both the trade exam and the Management Survey Exam. When there is no trade exam, the Management Survey exam is the only exam required in order to obtain that license. Each individual license’s information page will explain which tests are required.



  • Nevada Premanufactured Housing Contractor (B-1)

  • This license allows the fitting, assembling, placement and installing of premanufactured units, modular parts and their appurtenances for the erection of residential buildings, which do not extend more than three stories above the ground.

  • Nevada Residential & Small Commercial Contractor (B-2)

  • This license allows for the construction and remodeling of houses and other structures which support, shelter or enclose persons or animals or other chattels, and which do not extend more than 3 stories above ground and 1 story below ground.



  • Nevada General Building Contractor (B)

  • This license allows for the construction or remodeling of buildings or structures for the support, shelter and enclosure of persons, animals, chattels or movable property of any kind. A person who exclusively constructs or repairs mobile homes, manufactured homes or commercial coaches is not a general building contractor. A general building contractor may not perform plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, air-conditioning or fire protection without the appropriate specialty license.

  • Nevada Prefabricated Steel Structures Contractor (B-5)

  • This license allows the construction with prefabricated steel of structures to be used for the support, shelter or enclosure of persons or animals or other chattels.

  • Nevada Electrical (C-2) Contractor

  • This license allows works in all subclassifications under the C-2 category which include: Electrical Wiring (C-2a), Integrated Ceilings (C-2b), Fire Detection (C-2c), Low Voltage (C-2d), Lines to Transmit Electricity (C-2e), Residential Wiring (C-2f), and Photovoltaics (C-2g).

  • Nevada Electrical Wiring (C-2A) Contractor

  • This license allows the installation, alteration and repair of electrical wires, fixtures, appliances and apparatuses, and the performance of any related wiring on existing structures.

  • Nevada Lines To Transmit Electricity (C-2E)

  • This license allows the installation, alteration and repair of overhead or underground secondary lines which transmit electricity, including the installation of poles, towers, anchors, guys, transformers, substations, circuit breakers and any other related hardware, equipment or systems.

  • Nevada Residential Wiring (C-2F)

  • This license allows the installation, alteration and repair of electrical wires, fixtures, appliances and apparatuses whose electrical current does not exceed 600 volts on new or existing structures that do not exceed more than three stories above the ground.



  • Nevada Air Conditioning Contractor (C-21b)

  • This license allows the installation, repair, service and maintenance of equipment, devices, machinery, units and related ductwork which use evaporation, refrigeration, boilers or combustion for the control of air temperatures in structures where people live, work or assemble or animals are kept.

  • Nevada Boilers (C-1A) Contractor

  • This license allows the installation of boilers including all related fittings, piping, valves, gauges, pumps, radiators, convectors, tanks and lines for fuel oil, chimneys, flues, insulation and other appurtenances.

  • Nevada Heating and Ventilating Contractor (C-38c)

  • This license allows the fabrication and installation of systems for the heating of air with liquefied petroleum or natural gas and for circulating the air.

  • Nevada Heating, Cooling and Circulating Air (C-1F) Contractor

  • This license allows the fabrication and installation of systems for the heating, evaporative cooling and circulation of air, excluding cooling systems that require refrigeration as an integral part of the system

  • Nevada Installing Equipment Used w/ Liquefied Petroleum & Natural Gas (C-38)

  • This license allows work in all sub-classification in this category, which are: Pipes and Vents (C-38a), Gas Appliances and Equipment (C-38b) and Heating and Ventilating (C-38c).

  • Nevada Maintenance (C-21d) (Refrigeration/AC)

  • This license allows the repair and replacement of any parts of existing units of air-conditioning and refrigeration, including the compressors, motors, relays, coils, heat exchangers and other appurtenances and equipment, but not the replacement of complete condenser assemblies on remote systems, air handlers or any work that may alter the design of an existing system.

  • Nevada Plumbing and Heating (C-1) Contractor

  • The installation of boilers including all related fittings, piping, valves, gauges, pumps, radiators, convectors, tanks and lines for fuel oil, chimneys, flues, insulation and other appurtenances, the fabrication and installation of all systems of sprinklers for protection from fire, including the appurtenances, the insulation of pipes and ducts to reduce the loss of heat, the creation and maintenance of a permanent means for a supply of pure and wholesome water, ample in volume and of suitable temperatures, for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing and cleaning, for the cleansing of waste receptacles, and the speedy and complete removal of all fluid and semi-fluid organic wastes and other impurities, as appropriate for the occupation of any premises; the creation and maintenance of a permanent means to supply gas for residential and industrial purposes, the selection, cutting, shaping, fabrication and installation of sheet metal in such forms as cornices, flashings, gutters, leaders, downspouts for rainwater, pans, kitchen equipment, ducts, louvers, patented chimneys and metal flues, the fabrication and installation of systems for the heating, evaporative cooling and circulation of air, excluding cooling systems which require refrigeration as an integral part of the system, the installation of all types of systems for the complete artificial watering or irrigation of gardens, lawns, shrubs, vines, bushes, trees and other decorative vegetation, including any related excavating and backfilling, the installation of pipes from the source of supply of liquefied petroleum and natural gas into a building or structure and the installation of the related vents, the installation, replacement and repair of water heaters,

    including the connection to existing lines for potable water and gas, the necessary venting and other incidental connections, the installation, replacement and repair of systems for the collection of solar energy to heat potable water, swimming pools and spas, and air which is used to heat structures which house persons, animals or inanimate objects, the fabrication, installation, repair and removal of pipes, pumps, valves and other equipment used in the transfer of chilled water for the control of temperature.

     

  • Nevada Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractor (C-21)

  • The construction, erection and installation of devices, machinery and units for the control of air temperatures below 50F in refrigerators, refrigerated rooms and insulated spaces, and installation of any related insulation, ducts, blowers, registers, controls over humidity and thermostatic

    controls, lines for supplying natural gas from the unit to the point of connection in the existing line for natural gas at the meter or at any point thereafter, electrical service from the unit’s device to protect against excessive current to the main electrical panel, but not the installation of other gas or electric services for the devices, machinery or units, the installation, repair, service and maintenance of equipment, devices, machinery, units and related ductwork which use evaporation, refrigeration, boilers or combustion for the control of air temperatures in structures where people live, work or assemble or animals are kept, the selection, cutting, shaping, fabrication and installation of sheet metal in such forms as cornices, flashings, gutters, leaders, downspouts for rainwater, pans, kitchen equipment, ducts, louvres, patented chimneys and metal flues, the repair and replacement of any parts of existing units or systems of air-conditioning and refrigeration, including the compressors, motors, relays, coils, heat exchangers and other appurtenances and equipment, but not the replacement of complete condenser assemblies on remote systems, air handlers or any work that may alter the design of an existing system, the installation of the collectors, piping, storage and other equipment used in the conversion of solar energy to energy used for the control of air temperatures, the installation of the chiller, piping,

  • Nevada Refrigeration Contractor (C-21A)

  • This license allows the construction, erection and installation of devices, machinery and units for the control of air temperatures below 50 degrees (F) in refrigerators, refrigerated rooms and insulated spaces, and installation of any related insulation, ducts, blowers, registers, controls over humidity and thermostatic controls, lines for supplying natural gas from the unit to the point of connection in the existing line for natural gas at the meter or at any point thereafter, electrical service from the unit’s device to protect against excessive current to the main electrical panel, but not the installation of other gas or electric services for the devices, machinery or units.

  • Nevada Solar Air Conditioning Contractor (C-21e)

  • This license allows the installation of the collectors, piping, storage and other equipment used in the conversion of solar energy to energy used for the control of air temperatures.



  • Nevada Pipeline and Conduits, Water (A-19a)

  • This license allows for the fabrication and installation of water pipelines including the trenching, boring, shoring, backfilling, compacting, paving, surfacing and application of protective coatings necessary to complete only the installation of the pipes and conduits.

  • Nevada Plumbing (C-1D) Contractor

  • This license allows the creation and maintenance of a permanent means for a supply of pure and wholesome water, ample in volume and of suitable temperatures, for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing and cleaning, for the cleansing of waste receptacles, and the speedy and complete removal of all fluid and semi-fluid organic wastes and other impurities, as appropriate for the occupation of any premises; the creation and maintenance of a permanent means to supply gas for residential and industrial purposes.

  • Nevada Sewers, Drains and Pipes Contractor (A-15)

  • This license allows for the laying of cast-iron, steel, concrete, vitreous and nonvitreous pipe for sewers, drains and irrigation, including any related excavating, grading, trenching, backfilling, paving and surfacing, and the fabrication and erection of cesspools and septic tanks.

  • Nevada Water Heaters (C-1H) Contractor

  • This license allows the installation, replacement and repair of water heaters, including the connection of existing lines for potable water and gas, the necessary venting and other incidental connections.



  • Nevada Automatic Fire Sprinklers Contractor (C-41a)

  • This license allows the fabrication, installation, alteration, repair and service of fire protection systems using water, including required pressure and storage tanks, fire pumps and drivers, sprinkler heads and nozzles, and all associated valves and piping. Includes in this sub-classification is control wiring, any required excavation, backfilling and grading, and piping to a water supply which is not on the premises but is adjacent to the property with the fire protection system.

  • Nevada Fire Alarms Contractor (C-41c)

  • This license allows the installation; alteration, repair and servicing of electrical sensors and alarms used to detect heat and smoke including all appurtenances and related wiring.

  • Nevada Fire Detection (C-2C) Contractor

  • This license allows the installation, alteration and repair of electrical sensors and alarms used to detect heat and smoke, including all appurtenances and related wiring.

  • Nevada Fire Protection Contractor (C-41)

  • The fabrication, installation, alteration, repair ands service of fire protection systems using water, including required pressure and storage tanks, fire pumps and drivers, sprinkler heads and nozzles, and all associated valves and piping.  Included in this classification is control wiring, any required excavation, backfilling and grading, and piping to a water supply which is not on the premises but is adjacent to the property with the fire protection system, the fabrication, installation, repair and service of fire protection systems using foam, gas or dry chemicals, including pressurized storage tanks, valves, associated piping and sensing and control devices, the installation, alteration, repair and servicing of electrical sensors and alarms used to detect heat and smoke, including all appurtenances and related wiring.

  • Nevada Fire Sprinklers (C-1B) Contractor

  • This license allows the fabrication and installation of all systems of sprinkler for protection from fire, including the appurtenances.

  • Nevada Fixed Fire Extinguishing Systems Contractor (C-41b)

  • This license allows the fabrication, installation, repair and service of fire protection systems using foam, gas or dry chemicals, including pressurized storage tanks, valves, associated piping and sensing and control devices.

  • Nevada Low Voltage Contractor (C-2D)

  • This license allows the installation, alteration and repair of systems that use fiber optics or do not exceed 91 volts, including telephone systems, sound systems, sound systems, cable television systems, closed circuit video systems, satellite dish antennas, instrumentation and temperature controls, computer networking systems and landscape lighting.



  • Nevada Cable Television Contractor (C-42)

  • This license allows one to construct, alter or improve community antenna television systems.

  • Nevada Chilled Water Piping Contractor (C-21f)

  • This license allows the installation of the chiller, piping, pumps, storage tanks, coils, cooling tower and other equipment used in the production and use of chilled water for the control of temperatures.

  • Nevada Commercial & Residential Pools Contractor (A-10)

  • This license allows for the construction, alteration and repair of commercial and residential pools and spas, used for swimming, therapy, or decoration, including any appurtenant equipment. This license covers any work done under any of it’s subcategories which are: Residential Pools, Residential Spas, Pools and Spas of Fiberglass, Maintenance and Repair of Pools and Spas, Water and Gas Lines for Residential Pools and Spas.

  • Nevada Concrete Contractor (C-5)

  • This license allows the preparation of the surface and placing of reinforcement steel and other embedded materials essential to or comprising an integral part of the concrete or concrete construction; to pour, place, finish and install concrete; to construct and assemble forms, molds, slip-forms and pans; to apply concrete sealants and other waterproofing products; and saw, cut, drill and core concrete and asphaltic paving material.

  • Nevada Drilling Wells (C-23)

  • The board will grant to qualified applicants a license in the specialty of drilling wells and installing pumps, pressure tanks and storage tanks considered integral to water wells. The board designates such a license as a clarification C-23 license.  A person who holds a classification C-23 license may install and repair water wells, pressure tanks, storage tanks and pumps by boring, drilling, excavating, casing, cementing, dewatering and cleaning to provide a supply of uncontaminated water.

  • Nevada Excavating and Grading Contractor (A-7)

  • This license allows the digging, movement and placement of material forming the surface of the earth, other than water, with hand and power tools, machines and explosives to cut, fill, excavate, grade, backfill and perform other similar excavating, grading and trenching operations.

  • Nevada Excavating, Grading, Trenching & Surfacing Contractor (A-12)

  • This license allows all work authorized for a license subclassification of A-7 (Excavating and Grading) and the mixing, fabrication and placement of pavement and surfaces consisting of graded mineral aggregates, asphalt or concrete products.

  • Nevada Finish Carpentry (C-3B)

  • This license allows the installation, repair and finishing of cabinets, sash casing, door casing, wooden flooring, baseboards, countertops and other millwork. Finish carpentry does not include the installation of ceramic tile, marble and artificial or cultured stone.

  • Nevada General Engineering (A)

  • A General Engineering Contractor contracts to do fixed works, including irrigation, drainage, water supply, water power, flood control, harbors, railroads, highways, tunnels, airports and airways, sewers and sewage disposal systems, bridges, inland waterways, pipelines for transmission of petroleum and other liquid gaseous substances, refineries, chemical plants and industrial plants requiring a specialized engineering knowledge and skill, power plants, piers and foundations and structures or work incidental thereto.

  • Nevada Industrial Piping Contractor (A-20)

  • This license allows for the fabrication and installation of pipes for the transmission of steam, gases, chemicals and other substances required for industrial manufacturing or commercial operations and any related excavation, trenching and backfilling.

  • Nevada Landscape Contractor (C-10)

  • This license allows one to grade and prepare lots of land for architectural horticulture, decoratively treat, arrange, plant and maintain gardens, lawns, shrubs, vines, bushes, trees, and other vegetation, construct systems of drainage and landscape irrigation, install rocks, sand, gravel and other landscape materials that use xeriscape principles, hydro seed by spraying mulch, seeds and nutrients under pressure, control soil erosion and install non-engineered decorative landscape ponds or non-engineered prefabricated trellises and arbors. They may also install nonload-bearing walkways using brick or stone not exceeding 200 square feet in area, patio areas using stone or brick not exceeding 400 square feet in area, landscape retaining walls to a height not exceeding 3 feet and landscape lighting not exceeding 24 volts

  • Nevada Lathing and Plastering Contractor (C-17)

  •  The selection and application of wood and metal lath and any other material or product manufactured to provide key or suction bases for the support of plaster coatings, including channel iron for the support of fireproof lath and solid plaster partitions, but does not include any plastering or erecting of a wall, ceiling or soffit to which the bases are applied, the coating of surfaces with a plaster, made of a mixture of such materials as sand, cement, quicklime, hydrated lime and water, and the installation of lath or other base for the plaster, the installation and coating of gypsum wallboard and sheathing, including the installation of a system of suspended ceilings made of gypsum wallboard, the installation of wood, mineral, fiber and other types of acoustical tile by the use of adhesives or other acceptable means, including the preparation of the surface for the installation, the application to surfaces, whether by manual or mechanical means, of coatings made of stucco and cement, including the preparation of the surfaces and the provision of a base, including fireproof lath, for the coatings, and the fireproofing of structural members, the erection and installation of studs made of sheet metal for the framing of ceilings and nonstructural partitioning walls.

  • Nevada Lines to Transmit Electricity Contractor (A-17)

  • This license allows for the installation, alteration and repair or primary overhead lines which transmit electricity, including the erection of poles, towers, anchors, guys, transformers, substations, circuit breakers and any other related hardware, equipment or systems.

  • Nevada Masonry Contractor (C-18)

  • This license allows one to select, cut and lay brick, other baked clay products, rough cut and dressed stone, artificial stone, pre-cast blocks and structural glass brick or block at random or in courses, with or without mortar. It does NOT allow one to apply tile to existing surfaces.

  • Nevada Painting and Decorating Contractor (C-4)

  • A person who holds a classification C-4 license may apply any type of paint, varnish, shellac, stain, protective coatings, and wax, attach papers, fabrics and plastics to the surfaces of buildings and their appurtenances, examive and prepare surfaces for painting and wallcovering, and install drywall, metal studs and acoustical tile 

  • Nevada Painting Contractor (C-4A)

  • This license allows the application of all paints, varnishes, protective coatings, shellacs, stains and other pigment by brush, spray or roller.

  • Nevada Paving of Streets, Driveways, & Parking Lots Contractor (A-16)

  • This license allows for the excavation, grading, compacting, alteration and repair in the application of asphalt to streets, driveways, parking lots, boat ramps, and landing strips and taxiways for an airport.

  • Nevada Photovoltaics Contractor (C-2G)

  • This license allows the installation, alteration and repair of photovoltaic cells, batteries and invertors used in the conversion of solar energy into electricity, but not in the installation, alteration or repair of electrical wires beyond the service panel.

  • Nevada Pipe and Duct Insulation (C-1) Contractor

  • This license allows the insulation of pipes and ducts to reduce the loss of heat.

  • Nevada Pipeline and Conduits Contractor (A-19)

  • This license allows for the installation of electrical conduits only, and pipelines including the trenching, boring, shoring, backfilling, compacting, paving, surfacing and application of protective coatings necessary to complete only the installation of the pipes and conduits.

  • Nevada Pipeline and Conduits, Gas (A-19b)

  • This license allows for the fabrication and installation of gas pipelines including the trenching, boring, shoring, backfilling, compacting, paving, surfacing and application of protective coatings necessary to complete only the installation of the pipes and conduits.

  • Nevada Pipes and Vents for Gas (C-1G) Contractor

  • This license allows the installation of pipes from the source of supply of liquefied petroleum and natural gas into a building or structure and the installation of the related vents.

  • Nevada Piping for Hot Water Contractor (C-21g)

  • This license allows the fabrication, installation, repair and removal of pipes, pumps, valves and other equipment used in the transfer of hot water for the control of temperatures.

  • Nevada Reinforcing Steel Contractor (C-14A)

  •  This license allows the fabrication, placement and tying of steel reinforcing bars (rods), and post-tensioning to reinforce concrete buildings and structures.

  • Nevada Removal of Asbestos Contractor (A-23)

  • This license allows for the cleaning, handling, repair, removal, encapsulation, enclosure, hauling and disposal of, or other work with, materials containing asbestos.

  • Nevada Repair of Pools & Spas Contractor (A-10c)

  • This license allows for the repair and replacement of plaster, coping and coating of pool decks on residential pools and spas.

  • Nevada Residential Pools (A-10a)

  • This license allows for the construction, alteration and repair of residential pools and spas, used for swimming, therapy, or decoration, including any appurtenant equipment.

  • Nevada Residential Spas (A-10b)

  • This license allows for the construction and repair of residential spas, including any appurtenant equipment.

  • Nevada Roofing and Siding Contractor (C-15)

  • The installation, application, alteration and repair of watertight and weatherproof material used on roofs, such as asphalt, pitch, tar, felt, flax, shakes, shingles, aluminum, tile, slate and urethane, but not the installation of siding or devices, such as stripping, for the internal control of the effects of weather, the installation, alteration and repair of siding, by use of material such as wood, aluminum, enameled steel, plastic and glass, to make the walls of a structure watertight and weatherproof, the installation of glass, metal, plastic, urethane and other material used for the insulation of buildings, the application of solutions of rubber, latex, asphalt, pitch, tar and other materials to surfaces to prevent water in any form from penetrating the surfaces.

  • Nevada Roofing Contractor (C-15A)

  • This license allows the installation, application, alteration and repair of watertight and weatherproof material used on roofs, such as asphalt, pitch, tar, felt, shakes, shingles, aluminum, tile, slate and urethane, but not the installation of siding or devices, such as stripping, for the internal control of the effects of weather.

  • Nevada Service Stations Contractor (B-4)

  • This license allows the construction of structures and installation of equipment used to perform service upon vehicles.

  • Nevada Sheet Metal (C-1E) Contractor

  • This license allows the selection, cutting, shaping, fabrication and installation of sheet metal in such forms as cornices, flashings, gutters, leaders, downspouts for rainwater, pans, kitchen equipment, ducts, louvers, patented chimneys and metal flues.

  • Nevada Sheet Metal Contractor (C-13)

  • This license allows one to select, cut, shape, fabricate and install sheet metal ins such forms as cornices, flashings, gutters, leaders, downspouts for rainwater, pans, kitchen equipment, ducts, louvers, patented chimneys and metal flues.

  • Nevada Sheet Metal Contractor (C-21c) (Refrigeration/AC)

  • This license allows the selection, cutting, shaping, fabrication and installation of sheet metal in such forms as cornices, flashings, gutters, leaders, downspouts for rainwater, pans, kitchen equipment, ducts, louvers, patented chimneys and metal flues.

  • Nevada Sign Contractor (C-6B)

  • This license allows the fabrication, installation and erection of electrical signs and the installation of any related wiring.

  • Nevada Solar Air Conditioning (C-37c)

  • This license allows the installation of the collectors, piping, storage and other equipment used in the conversion of solar energy to energy used for the control of air temperatures.

  • Nevada Solar Contracting (C-37)

  • This license allows one to design, fabricate and install systems for the collection of solar energy to heat and cool water, air and chemicals. It allows work in all sub-classifications in this category, which are: Water Heating (C-37a), Space Heating (C-37b), Air-Conditioning (C-37c), and Heating of Pools (C-37d).

  • Nevada Solar Heating of Pools Contractor (C-37d)

  • This license allows the installation of the collectors, piping and heat exchangers used to heat swimming pools and spas with solar energy, but not the plumbing of swimming pools or the installation of their equipment.

  • Nevada Solar Space Heating Contractor (C-37b)

  • This license allows the installation of systems for the collection of solar energy to heat water or air which is in turn used to heat structures which house persons, animals or inanimate objects including storage, piping, and heat exchangers, but excluding equipment for pools.

  • Nevada Solar Water Heating Contractor (C-37a)

  • This license allows the installation of systems for the collection of solar energy to heat water for potable uses, but not the installation of pipes or fixtures other than water heaters and storage tanks designed for the use of water so heated.

  • Nevada Speculative Building Contractor (B-3)

  • This license allows the construction upon property owned by the contractor of structures for sale or speculation.

  • Nevada Steel Reinforcing and Erection Contractor (C-14)

  • This license allows work in all the sub-classifications under this category. The sub-classification are: Reinforcing Steel (C-14a), Structural Steel (C-14b), Ornamental Metal (C-14c), Curtain Wall (C-14d), Metal Doors and Windows (C-14e), Store Fronts (C-14f), Prefabricated Steel Structures (C-14g), Awnings and Louvers (C-14h), and Rigging and Cranes (C-14i).

  • Nevada Tiling Contractor (C-20)

  • This license allows one to install, by means of suction and adhesives, ceramic tile, encaustic tile, vitreous tile and other tile-like products except for hollow or structural partitioning tile.
