What Sets ACES Apart

Most contractor exam prep courses are either pre‑recorded videos or large webinars where you might not get individual attention. American Contractors Exam Services is different. We offer a truly personal experience designed around how you learn best.

  • Live instruction, not just modules. While others rely on self‑paced material, we give you a live instructor who adapts to your learning speed and answers questions in real time.
  • Hands-on prep and references. Practice with the books and materials you’ll use during the exam. We’ll help you tab and highlight for faster navigation.
  • Comprehensive licensing support. Passing the exam is the first step. We guide you from application filing to getting your license issued and offer application processing services.
  • Proven track record. Decades of experience and a first-try pass rate you can trust mean our methods are perfected—not experimental.

FAQ – Custom Contractor License Training

Private, live exam prep—one-on-one or for your small team—delivered in person or via live webinar on your schedule.

What is “Custom Training,” and who is it for?

Custom Training is a private, live prep session tailored to your state and license exam. It’s ideal if you don’t see your course on the calendar, need a specific date/time, or want focused one-on-one (or small-group) instruction—either in person or via a live webinar.

How is Custom Training different from scheduled seminars?

Scheduled seminars run on preset dates with a group. Custom Training is arranged around your dates, location (our place or yours), and format (in-person or live online). You get extended Q&A and hands-on help organizing your open-book references.

Is training available in person, online, or both?

Both. We can meet at one of our centers or your office, or deliver the session as a live webinar—whichever is most convenient.

Do you offer small-group or company sessions?

Yes. Tell us your headcount and objectives when you request Custom Training. We’ll recommend the format and propose dates that work for your team.

What’s included in a Custom Training session?

  • Live instruction aligned to your state and license exam
  • Exam strategy and time-management coaching
  • Guided tabbing/highlighting of permitted references for open-book exams
  • Optional practice questions and targeted review

Do I need specific books? Can I buy them from you?

Each state/license has required references. You can purchase books and permanent tab sets in our Bookstore. Tabs help you navigate quickly on test day (within provider rules).

Is the Business & Law exam required?

It depends on the state. Example – Tennessee: Business & Law is required for all contractor licenses and sometimes is sufficient for certain specialties. Check your state page or ask us.

Are these exams open-book?

Many are (or have open-book components), but rules vary by state/provider. Example – Tennessee Business & Law: open-book. Always verify on your course page and the testing bulletin.

Who administers the exam, and how do I schedule?

Most states use third-party providers (often PSI). Your course page links to the correct portal. We can also point you to the current bulletin and fees.

What are the exam length and passing score?

It varies by license/state. Example – Tennessee Business & Law: 50 questions, ~2h20m, 73% to pass (37 correct). Your course page lists the exact numbers for your state.

Do you help with the state license application after I pass?

Yes—our Application Processing service handles the paperwork for many states (state fees separate). Ask us to bundle it with your training.

What does Custom Training cost?

Pricing depends on license, delivery (in-person vs webinar), and one-on-one vs group. Submit the request form with your state, license, and preferred dates for a firm quote.

How soon can I get scheduled?

Often very quickly—based on instructor availability. Include your ideal dates/times so we can prioritize.

What if I don’t see my state or course listed?

Use the request form at the bottom of the page. We support most contractor licensing categories across many states and can scope a session even if it’s not yet listed.

Do you provide practice exams?

Yes—ask us to include a Business & Law practice exam (and other practice content where available) with your Custom Training package.

Do you really maintain a high pass rate?

We’ve trained tens of thousands of students over decades and consistently advertise a 99% success rate on our site. Results depend on individual study and exam performance, but our live prep is designed to help you pass on the first try.

Can you help me choose the right license category?

Yes—if you’re unsure about classifications (e.g., residential vs commercial, specialties, Business & Law requirements), we’ll review your goals and state rules and point you to the correct path.

Can I bring my own books? Are tabs allowed?

You may bring permitted editions. We carry permanent tab sets designed for common exams. Always follow your provider’s current bulletin regarding allowed materials.

What if I need help after the session?

We remain available for questions and can book extra review time if needed. For paperwork, consider Application Processing to streamline your license filing.
