Kentucky Journeyman Electrician

Electricians install, repair and maintain power systems for commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Training to become a journeyman electrician typically takes about 4 years, and involves an apprenticeship and state licensing. In Kentucky, electricians must pass an exam, provide proof of work experience, and log at least 576 hours of classroom training. Additionally, electricians must understand blueprints and electrical codes.

Notarized proof of six years experience--either four years of work experience and completion of an approved training program (at least 576 hours of classroom training) or an additional two years of work experience.

Applications must be completed and sent to the Board with experience documentation, passing exam scores, a current photo and $100 fee.

Kentucky will consider reciprocity on an individual basis.
Only Master Electricians must complete 6 hours of Continuing Education each year in order to renewal their license.

The Kentucky Standard Journeyman Electrician exam is 80 multiple-coice questions, is open-book and has a 4 hour time limit.

The fee is $100.00

The testing company is ICC and administered through PearsonVue.
