Mississippi Business Law for Mechanical Classifications

  • Pre-approval from the state is required to sit for the exam. The State is the only entity authorized to tell you which test(s) you should take or are qualified to take. Any questions regarding which test(s) to take should be directed to the Board.
  • In addition to passing a trade exam, applicants for all commercial licenses are required to pass the Business and Law Management exam. *Please note that we do offer a separate Business and Law Management seminar for the Mechanical trades, listed as Business and Law for Mechanical contractors*.
  • All financial requirements, experience requirements, bond and insurance requirements, application fees, and application processing information can be found listed with each trade exam.
The Mississippi Business and Law Management license cannot stand alone. It must be combined with a commercial contractor’s license of some type. Residential contractors are the only contractors that are not required to take the Business and Law Management exam.

Applicants obtaining a Mississippi license by reciprocity may sign a waiver rather than take the Business and Law Management exam.

As of this time Mississippi doesn’t require continuing education for this license.

  • The fee for the exam is $120 and a score of 70% is required to pass.
  • The Mississippi Business and Law Management exam has 50 questions and a time limit of 2 hours.

    Topics covered on the exam are licensing, business organization, estimating and bidding, contracts, project management, risk management, labor laws, financial management, tax laws, environmental and safety, and lien law.
