Every state licensing board defines the exact project types, sizes, and trades that fall under each contractor classification. Review the scope below to make sure this license matches the work you actually do — then enroll in the seminar that prepares you for that exam the first time.
This license allows work in the design, plan, layout, installation, repair and alteration of electrical conductors, fixtures, appliances, apparatus, raceways, conduit and related equipment and fixtures that use electrical energy for light, heat, power, data and communications. The contractor is allowed to bid, advertise and contract. Applicants must take the Electrical Business and Law Exam in addition to the Unlimited Electrical Contractor Exam in order to obtain this license.
License Requirements
Applicants must take the Electrical Business and Law Exam in addition to the Unlimited Electrical Contractor Exam in order to obtain this license.
A completed application must be submitted to the state licensing board to obtain approval to test.
Applicants must have 12,000 hours of on the job electrical construction experience. · Proof of 4,000 hours experience as licensed electrical journeyman · 4,000 hours must be in commercial/industrial work obtained while employed by a license electrical contractor · 6,000 hours maximum allowed for formal electrical related education · 2,000 hours maximum may be satisfied by military electrical installations or electrical maintenance
There are no state mandated minimum financial requirements for this license.
Reciprocity
The Board may enter into a reciprocity agreement with another State if the requirements for licensure in the other State are deemed by the Board to be substantially the same or equivalent to the requirements for obtaining an original license by examination in this state.Continuing Education
Oklahoma requires that 6 hours of approved CE must be completed every 36 months (3 years). A licensee is exempt from these requirements for 3 years from the date he or she initially passes the current licensing exam. As of July 1, 2014, no contractor or journeyman license shall be renewed unless 6 hours of Continuing Education, within the last 36 months (3 years), have been completed. Thereafter, 6 hours of CE must be completed every 3 years (36 months).
The Exam
The exam is given by PSI. It is an open-book, timed test with 100 questions and a 4-hour time limit. A score of at least 70% is required to pass the test. The exam fee is $92.00 per exam

How We Help You Prepare
American Contractors offers a 2-day seminar to prepare for the Oklahoma Unlimited Electrical Contractor with Business Law exams. We also carry all the references needed to prepare for the exam.
All active Electrical Contractors must obtain a $5,000 Surety Bond, as well as Liability Insurance of at least $50,000.
Fees must accompany the application. The licensing fee is $330. ($300 for license & $30 for processing)
Applications will be processed once per week. Wait time for approval should be less than two weeks.
