Georgia Residential Basic Contractor with Business Law

License Requirements

Pre-approval from the state is required to sit for the examination.

Please note that the Georgia Business and Law exam is also required to be passed to obtain your contractor’s license.

Licensure will be required for the practice of contracting in Georgia for any job over $2,500.

Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years old.

Applicants must affirm a net worth of at least $25,000. If they cannot do that, then they must provide a $25,000 surety bond, line of credit, or letter of credit, or provide a Bank Credit Reference Form to show that they've had a bank account in their license name for at least 2 years.

$300,000.00 In GENERAL LIABILITY INSURANCE is REQUIRED. If you have more than 3 employees you must also have Workers Compensation Insurance.

Experience: Applicants must have at least 2 years of proven experience working as or be employed by a residential contractor, predominantly in the residential-basic category, AND must have had significant responsibility for the successful performance and completion of at least 2 projects falling within the Residential Basic category in the 2-years preceding the application. Those 2 projects must have been completed with the same residential contractor who the 2 years of experience were gained under. Other proven experience deemed substantially similiar by the Board may be accepted.
