License Requirements

Work Experience Required for Class A (Master Electrician) License

A licensed Journeyman Electrician applying for a Class A (Master Electrician) license shall meet the following eligibility criteria for licensure:

(a) furnish documentary proof satisfactory to the Board of having completed at least one year of experience as the holder of a Massachusetts Class B (Journeyman Electrician) license and having been actively engaged in electrical work.

(b) For the purposes of licensure as a Master Electrician, an applicant whose experience is limited to installing fire warning, security or inherently power limited systems shall not be considered a qualified applicant.

13.02: Education Requirements for Class A (Master Electrician) License

(1) A licensed Journeyman Electrician applying for a Class A (Master Electrician) license shall meet the following eligibility criteria for licensure:

(a) furnish documentary proof satisfactory to the Board of having successfully completed without substantial interruption and with the same provider 150 clock hours of classroom instruction, as described in 237 CMR 22.00 based on the current, or if applicable, the preceding Code before making an application for examination.

(b) For the purposes of licensure as a Master Electrician, an applicant whose education is limited to fire warning, security, or inherently power limited systems objectives shall not be considered a qualified applicant.

(2) Applicants who have education, work experience and/or licenses in another state or jurisdiction (other than those with reciprocity with Massachusetts), may be eligible for a waiver of this education requirement if determined by the Board by 237 CMR 13.11, 13.12, and 13.13.
