Printreading Based on the 2020 NEC
Confirm This Is the Right License for Your Work
Every state licensing board defines the exact project types, sizes, and trades that fall under each contractor classification. Review the scope below to make sure this license matches the work you actually do — then enroll in the seminar that prepares you for that exam the first time.
Applicants for the Montana Master Electrician license must be approved by the State and must pass the required examination.
There are Educational or Experience Requirements that must be met:
Electrical Engineering Degree (4yr) from accredited college or university with letters of verification from employers of 1 year experience in light, heat and power OR a copy of certificate or diploma verifying graduate of post secondary electrical trade school recognized by the Board, accompanied by letters of verification from employers of at least 4 years (8,000 hours) practical experience in the electrical field.
At least 5 years (10,000 hours) experience in planning, laying-out, and supervising at a journeyman level with an appropriate amount of commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional wiring.

Continuing Education
Montana requires 8-hours on Continuing Education each year for license renewal. A minimum of 4-hours must be certified as covering the NEC updates. CE courses approved by another state having reciprocity with the Board will be honored.The Exam
The exam is administered by PSI.
Master Electrician 2020 exam is open-book, has 80 questions with a minimum passing score of 75% correct. Time allowed is 40 minutes.
Examination content includes: National Electrical Code, General Trade Knowledge & Theory, and Major Load Calculations
