Every state licensing board defines the exact project types, sizes, and trades that fall under each contractor classification. Review the scope below to make sure this license matches the work you actually do — then enroll in the seminar that prepares you for that exam the first time.

This refers to the installation, maintenance or repair of roof systems, including membrane, asphalt shingle, composite shingle, metal, clay tile, wood shingle, wood shake, slate, and foam for buildings and structures. Includes roof decks, and waterproofing for associated parapet walls including flashings and other accessories. Also includes general sheet metal. Siding made of various materials such as wood, vinyl, aluminum, Hardie board is also included in this classification.

License Requirements

An application form must be submitted to the board before testing.

Pre-Approval is required. There are no specific experience requirements.

Completion of the Louisiana Business Law course is required for licensure

A financial statement showing a net worth of at least $50,000 (within 12 months of filing date) prepared by a CPA, Accountant or Bookkeeper, for those wishing to perform work on a construction undertaking where the entire cost of the project is $50,000.00 or more.

Reciprocity

Louisiana states that if an individual holds a license in any other state for a classification that required a trade exam to be passed, LA will accept that exam for reciprocity for whatever classification LSLBC deems to be equivalent.

The Exam

The examination for the Louisiana Roofing and Sheet Metal, Siding License consists of 50 multiple-choice questions covering the various types of roofing application.

There is a 2-hr time limit and a 70% is required to pass.

This is a closed-book test.
