Every state licensing board defines the exact project types, sizes, and trades that fall under each contractor classification. Review the scope below to make sure this license matches the work you actually do — then enroll in the seminar that prepares you for that exam the first time.
All types of contractors are required to pass both the Business Law Exam and the trade exam to obtain a license. The examination for Louisiana Insulation (Commercial and Industrial) License has 50 questions, is multiple-choice, closed book examination that covers all aspects of insulation relating to construction.
License Requirements
An application form must be submitted to the board before testing.
There are no specific experience requirements in Louisiana.
Completion of the Louisiana Business Law course is required for licensure
A financial statement showing a net worth of at least $50,000 (within 12 months of filing date) prepared by a CPA, Accountant or Bookkeeper, for those wishing to perform work on a construction undertaking where the entire cost of the project is $50,000.00 or more.
Reciprocity
Louisiana states that if an individual holds a license in any other state for a classification that required a trade exam to be passed, LA will accept that exam for reciprocity for whatever classification LSLBC deems to be equivalent.Continuing Education

The Exam
Effective August 5, 2025, all trade examinations administered by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) will transition to PSI Services LLC (PSI). Applicants can begin scheduling with PSI on July 16, 2025.
Exam fees are $125.00 per exam.
The Louisiana Insulation Construction exam is Open-Book, 40 multiple-choice questions, requires 70% to pass and has a 2-hr time limit.
Exam Content: General Knowledge & Theory, Spray-On Aplication,Batt/Roll Insulation, Blown or Loose-Fill Insulation, Reflective Insulation, Vapor Retarders, Pipe Insulation and Safety.
