Confirm This Is the Right License for Your Work

Every state licensing board defines the exact project types, sizes, and trades that fall under each contractor classification. Review the scope below to make sure this license matches the work you actually do — then enroll in the seminar that prepares you for that exam the first time.

A Master Plumber means any person licensed by the Board, to engage in, or about to engage in, the business of installing plumbing or plumbing systems.

License Requirements

Applicants for examination must meet the following requirements for the following examination(s):

A minimum of at least one year with 2,000 hours of work in the field of plumbing installations as a licensed journeyman plumber; or
A minimum of at least four years with 8,000 hours of work in the field of plumbing installations as a licensed trainee plumber under the supervision of a licensed master plumber.

Reciprocity

Maine currently does not have reciprocal agreements with any state for Plumbing classifications.

Continuing Education

Maine does not requires continuing education for Plumbers at this time.br />

The Exam

The testing company is Prov
The exam is a closed book and consist of 100 questions with a 3 hour time limit.
It is all multiple-choice. A score of 75% is required to pass the exam. The exam fee is $60.
If you should fail the exam, you must wait 14 days before retaking a failed exam. If you do not obtain a passing score during the 24 months after approval, you must reapply through the state.
