Confirm This Is the Right License for Your Work

Every state licensing board defines the exact project types, sizes, and trades that fall under each contractor classification. Review the scope below to make sure this license matches the work you actually do — then enroll in the seminar that prepares you for that exam the first time.

This exam tests a candidate’s knowledge of the installation, maintenance, repair, fabrication, alteration or extension of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation, including ductwork, within a complete system limited to twenty-five tons cooling and five-hundred thousand BTU heating, and related appurtenances, apparatus, piping vessels, ducts and insulation while employed and supervised by a refrigeration contractor.

License Requirements

The first step in the licensing process is to submit a completed application to the state licensing board to obtain approval to test.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and verify at least 3 years of experience.

There are no state mandated minimum financial requirements for this license.

Reciprocity

The Board may enter into a reciprocity agreement with another State if the requirements for licensure in the other State are deemed by the Board to be substantially the same or equivalent to the requirements for obtaining an original license by examination in this state

Continuing Education

Oklahoma requires that 6 hours of approved CE must be completed every 36 months (3 years). A licensee is exempt from these requirements for 3 years from the date he or she initially passes the current licensing exam. As of July 1, 2014, no contractor or journeyman license shall be renewed unless 6 hours of Continuing Education, within the last 36 months (3 years), have been completed. Thereafter, 6 hours of CE must be completed every 3 years (36 months).

The Exam

The exam is given by PSI. It is an open-book, timed test with 60 questions and a 3-hour time limit. A score of at least 70% is required to pass the exam. The test fee is $92.00 per exam

American Contractors currently offers 1-day classes for the Oklahoma HVACR Journeyman Limited Contractor. We also carry all the reference materials needed to study for the exam. Please call 800-992-1910, if you have additional questions.

Fees must accompany the application. The licensing fee is $75. ($50 for License & $25 for processing)

Applications are reviewed once per week. Wait time for approval should be minimal.

Plumbing, Mechanical & Electrical construction are regulated at the state level.
