Oklahoma HVACR Journeyman Unlimited

This exam tests a candidate’s knowledge of the installation, maintenance, repair, fabrication, alteration or extension of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation, including ductwork, within a complete system unlimited in horsepower or tons, and related appurtenances, apparatus, piping vessels, ducts and insulation while under the supervision and in the employ of a HVACR Contractor.

Additional Services

The first step in the licensing process is to submit a completed application to the state licensing board to obtain approval to test.

The Journeyman is not required to take the Mechanical Business and Law Exam.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and verify at least 3 years of experience.

There are no state mandated minimum financial requirements for this license.

This exam tests a candidate's knowledge of the installation, maintenance, repair, fabrication, alteration or extension of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation, including ductwork, within a complete system unlimited in horsepower or tons, and related appurtenances, apparatus, piping vessels, ducts and insulation while under the supervision and in the employ of a HVACR Contractor.

Fees must accompany the application.   The licensing fee is $75. ($50 for License & $25 for processing)

Applications are reviewed once per week. Wait time for approval should be minimal.

The Board may enter into a reciprocity agreement with another State if the requirements for licensure in the other State are deemed by the Board to be substantially the same or equivalent to the requirements for obtaining an original license by examination in this state

Oklahoma requires that 6 hours of approved CE must be completed every 36 months (3 years). A licensee is exempt from these requirements for 3 years from the date he or she initially passes the current licensing exam.   As of July 1, 2014, no contractor or journeyman license shall be renewed unless 6 hours of Continuing Education, within the last 36 months (3 years), have been completed.  Thereafter, 6 hours of CE must be completed every 3 years (36 months).

The exam is given by PSI. It is an open-book, timed test with 70 questions and a 3-hour time limit. A score of at least 70% is required to pass the exam. The test fee is $100.00
