Additional Services

The first step in the licensing process is to submit a completed application to the state licensing board to obtain approval to test.

All Mechanical Contractors are required to take the Mechanical Business and Law Exam in addition to the contractor’s exam in order to obtain this license.

Applicants must be at least 19 years of age and verify at least 4 years of experience.

All types of Mechanical Contractors are required to carry a $5,000 Surety Bond and at least $50,000 in liability insurance.

This exam tests a candidate’s knowledge of the installation, maintenance, repair, fabrication, alteration or extension of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation, including ductwork, within a complete system unlimited in horsepower or tons, and related appurtenances, apparatus, piping vessels, ducts and insulation.

Fees must accompany the application. The licensing fee is $330. ($300 for license & $30 for processing)

Applications are reviewed once per week. Wait time for approval should be minimal.

The Board may enter into a reciprocity agreement with another State if the requirements for licensure in the other State are deemed by the Board to be substantially the same or equivalent to the requirements for obtaining an original license by examination in this state

Oklahoma requires that 6 hours of approved CE must be completed every 36 months (3 years). A licensee is exempt from these requirements for 3 years from the date he or she initially passes the current licensing exam.   As of July 1, 2014, no contractor or journeyman license shall be renewed unless 6 hours of Continuing Education, within the last 36 months (3 years), have been completed.  Thereafter, 6 hours of CE must be completed every 3 years (36 months).

The exam is given by PSI. It is an open-book, timed test with 90 questions and a 4-hour time limit. A score of at least 70% is required to pass the exam. The test fee is $100.00
